In recent times, every time I surf the net (or in 99,9% of these particular cases, StumbleUpon sites), I catch myself becoming more and more fascinated with furniture which is designed in a clean, simple and very functional manner. Remember, the Safe Bedside Table?
Obvisously I decide not to blog about each piece but here’s one I wouldn’t mind having on our walls.
It looks like this is a prototype not available for purchase and only designed as part of Irish designer Catherine Greene’s graduation from the Royal College of Art (RCA).
Using carbon Kevlar fabric as a flexible hinge to connect pieces of wood together I create a moving surface which you can roll up and roll back again depending on use and need – in this case it is a shelf which rolls back to allow higher objects to sit on a lower shelf.
Think about it, how many times have you had something you wanted to put on a shelf and you ended up placing it on the top shelf because it’s too tall and the result is something that looks more like a church organ than an eye catching feature in your home.

I think this concept would be even more interesting on a larger scale. Perhaps a lakeside dock that rolls out when you want to walk on it, or even a second story balcony! Now that would be wild!
Reply to Justin (pusha)That’s some pretty neat gear… I’d like to get me hands on one of these!
