There have been a lot of innovative advances in graffiti art to expand the artists canvas. “Tagged in Motion” is a project created by Hamburg graffiti artist DAIM, that eliminates a graffer canvas of a solid matter and unveils the ability to be able to tag in mid air, creating real-time graffiti in 3D, a virtual world of graffiti visible through 3D glasses.

The graffiti is captured using three camcorders with motion capturing. They record the graffer position and his exact motions he executes with a virtual spray can. By using the 3D glasses, the graffer can view his art in real time. Using a Bluetooth controller, the artist can pick and choose his colors, brush strokes and textures to enhance his floating 3D graffiti experience.

Stumble Upon, you’ve done it once again. Without you I would have never read about this on boingboing.net. It must be one of the coolest things I’ve ever read; pretty sure the Kush IA Wasp, A Roach, Its Brain And The Escape Reflex just smoked helps a bit, but please. Read it yourself.

A wasp steers a roach by its antenna after injecting a venom into the escape reflex zone of the roaches brain. WHAT? … And this is only the beginning. The roach basically ends up as the new home of a soon-to-be wasp.

Reading this I wonder if anyone ever recorded this. Please let me know if you have ever witnessed this. At least I wanna see the wasp riding the roaches back.

To make it scientific let’s read the full explanation by Parasite Rex author Carl Zimmer.

The wasp slips her stinger through the roach’s exoskeleton and directly into its brain. She apparently uses sensors along the sides of the stinger to guide it through the brain, a bit like a surgeon snaking his way to an appendix with a laparoscope. She continues to probe the roach’s brain until she reaches one particular spot that appears to control the escape reflex. She injects a second venom that influences these neurons in such a way that the escape reflex disappears.

From the outside, the effect is surreal. The wasp does not paralyze the cockroach. In fact, the roach is able to lift up its front legs again and walk. But now it cannot move of its own accord. The wasp takes hold of one of the roach’s antennae

Fascinating vintage clip from 1969 with predictions of the many advantages of home computers and what is now known as the internet. Well, they most of it right…

I’m curious to know what the origins of this video clip are. If anyone can identify what this was made for, please let me know.

Not the usual type of post from me, but these blog statistics I just read really blew my mind…

As of April 2007, Technorati via David Sifry’s The State of the Blogosphere, shows over 72 million blogs being tracked and over 120 thousand blogs being created everyday. 1.2 million new blogs and 14 million new posts in a matter of 10 days.

aerogel1

I just stumbled upon this fascinating article about Aerogel (also called ‘Frozen Smoke’) on the Times Online UK and had to share my excitement.

This stuff will really change the world.

Wikipedia says Aerogel is a low-density solid state material derived from gel in which the liquid component of the gel has been replaced with gas. The result is an extremely low density solid with several remarkable properties, most notably its effectiveness as an insulator.

Check out the video to get a better idea about how Aerogel looks and feels; I’m really curious about this stuff. It looks really light and its structure shows why they name it ‘frozen smoke’.

Check out just a few uses as mentioned in the Times Online article:

USB Necktie Cooler - what is it?

What is funnier? This USB Necktie Cooler or the translation of the original Japanese website by Altavista’s Babelfish? Who doesn’t love some Engrish (that is of course only if you’re not flipping through a manual looking to get your gadgets going) :)
